Lets talk about the importance of maintaining fluid levels. We do not keep a tally of how many
cars we see broke down on the highway. This is where you need to listen! If you don't you
can't say we did not try to help you! One of the minor repairs you can make is changing spark
plugs or windshield wiper blades.
Making sure that the fluid level in the windshield washer is full. Get ready for a story and this
is not really fun but it is true. I told a member of my family to fill the windshield washer tank
with fluid. I asked: Do you know where the tank is located? Oh sure no problem. Two days
later my window was full of mud and I tried to use my windshield washer.
Guess what it did not work! So I called my family member into the garage. Will you show me,
where you put the fluid. Just as I had suspected they had put the windshield washer fluid in
the radiator overflow tank. Its lucky that this will not damage to anything. But it just goes to
show, what mistakes can happen very easily.
Look in your cars glove box tomorrow and find the car manual. It has a lot of interesting
things in there. You will find all of the specifications for different levels in your car. What
type of bulb you will need to replace your headlamps, turn signal, dome lights. It also shows
you the locations of all the components I have been talking about.
I will continue to post how to do things. Hopefully this will be of interest to you. I will expect
to see you back every week for a new discussion. OK!

Lets get started with the tools needed to complete this repair. Socket Set one half inch, Spring Compressor to hold the
springs in the collapsed position, Jack stands will be needed to support the axle. To remove the rust built up on the bolts, I
would recommend Liquid Wrench or similar solvent. Four Ton center stand jack to support the rear end. Finally a wire brush
or wheel for your electric drill. Usually this repair only requires replacement of the strut cans.
But there have been times when the rear springs are broken from hauling to much weight in the rear of the vehicle.
Part one: Apply rust solvent on bolts and let set for about 30 minutes. When time has elasped brush rush off threaded torsion
rod. Once rust has been removed, nuts need to be removed without stopping. Threads have a tendency to gauge and strip
from the friction and heat created so be careful.
Part two: Apply Spring compressor, use socket set to crank down on the bolts that squeeze the clamp. Once spring is
compressed down about three inches, That strut stand nuts can be removed from top of strut. Rear seat and seat back must be
removed to gain access to the nuts. There is a cinch bolt holding the strut at the bottom. Loosen cinch bolt and split with tie rod
end remover.
Part three: You can remove strut rod from idle arm to make it easier to remove the tower. Once you have the tower out on the
ground it will be much easier to replace with new gas struts. Now that the assembly is out inspect to be sure that springs are
not broken. This is the procedure for rear strut and spring replacement. The procedure for replacement of front struts is almost
the same. Problems contact us at: info@justonemorestep.com
