Wipe Blades and Wiper Arms Complete

By-----David Trujillo

Wiper blades save lives. Wiper arms and blades sometimes save the day. Because replacing the whole unit might be easier than finding the replacement blades that you need. The blades are a very important part of your safety and others. Have you ever been out driving when it starts to rain? Suddenly it is really raining; you turn down a side street and look out. How were you supposed to know that the road was under repair? It is a total mud pit and here comes a bunch of big trucks. Do your wiper blades work? When was the last time that you changed them?

Truck number one comes by, swoosh mud and crusty who knows what hits your windshield. Your turn on the magic wiper blades and they clear a small path on the windshield. I can not see there are cars coming at me 65 miles per hour. My windshield is a royal nightmare. That was much too real let’s get back to changing your blades. Well it looks like your going to need a size 22 blade. Lets see I saw some blades lets go get them. What is the best thing we could do in this situation? What do your wiper arms look like? Are they worn and dinghy?

Are they painted just like the day you bought the vehicle? If they are dingy and chipped! I would suggest that you replace the whole unit. The other case scenario that we were talking about would be to just change the blades. But of course we are going to take care of each situation. Buying a pair of wiper blades is always the most reasonable. Don' t forget the blades on all your other vehicles. If you have a rear windshield wiper we need to replace them too. Blades can be anywhere from $4.89cents to $9.89cents per blade. Making a complete set around $10 to 20 dollars.

This is just for the front and the same for the rear. These replacements do not usually require any tools. First you pull the blade up away from the window. Grasp the windshield wiper and flip it up 180 degrees push the release and slide it off the arm. Replacement is just the reverse. Lift the arm toward you, slide the blade on the arm and flip it 180 degrees.

That's one set, now do the same thing on all the rest of the wipers. This job is complete except for testing to make sure rubber is not dried out. Let’s finish the blade replacement project. This time we will replace the whole arm. Down near the hood, the wiper motor fitting comes through the hood.

First you will bend the arm up 90 degrees; this will allow you to remove the whole arm assembly.

Now if when you bend the wipers arms vertical 90 degrees and see an Allen heads fitting. You will have to get an Allen wrench and loosen the fitting. Once the fitting has been loosened you can now remove the windshield wiper arm. Replacement of coarse is in the reverse. Slide the blade on the fitting and tighten the Allen head nut. Make sure you put the blades on in the same position they came off.

Fold the wiper blade to the horizontal position and you are done. Now complete the procedure for each and every wiper blade replacement you have made. You have done a superb job.
