Credit Bureaus Continued
They loose track of what the account numbers were so they start to go
after anybody that has a name that looks and sounds like the person
with the debt. So now the snowball effect takes over and it just gets
bigger and bigger until it spins out of control. Now other laws start to
take effect because there is a limited amount of time
that a company can follow a debt. Here is a little extra info I just
thought about and we are lucky as consumers it protects us. It is
called the Statute of Limitations. What it says in a nutshell is that on
certain debt they can only try to collect it for a number of years.
Each state is different so check your state for the length of time. But
guess what they have the ability to take advantage of this law too.
They call it re-aging a debt. So this is what they will do next, real nice
right! To make it look like the debt just happen yesterday.
They will take a debt that is dated let say June 15, 2002. Re-age it send
it to the credit bureau as January 15, 2008. So what do you think this
does to a person credit. Right down the toilet, you hit that one on the
head. So essentially what they have done is changed the Statute of
limitations.
Is this legal? I don't know but I do know that it is being done. There is
another ruling in certain states about debt encountered by a minor.
injured in some way. They get a bill for services rendered by a
physician or hospital staff in emergency room.
This is your child and of course you will pay the bill. Now lets say your
injured child is 23 years old. In certain states you are liable for that
debt until they reach the age of 25 years of age.
